Florida's insurance regulator says it approved four homeowners-insurance rate decreases affecting more than 62,000 policies. For those covered by the four insurers, the changes take effect at renewal. A statewide headline does not mean every homeowner gets a cut, or that an individual renewal bill will fall by the same percentage.
In its September 22 announcement, the Office of Insurance Regulation identified One Alliance North America Insurance Company, Safe Harbor Insurance Company, Unique Insurance Company and Vyrd Insurance Company. The office listed decreases of 10.4%, 4.1%, 3.2% and 10.4%, respectively, affecting 17,148, 10,501, 8,266 and 26,751 policies. Those figures are rate changes and affected-policy counts in the regulator's release, not personalized quotes or a promise about the premium on any one home.
The regulator also said many other companies had asked for lower rates or no increase since January 2024. Requests still under review are not approved cuts. Florida's statement also cited a separate company's average South Florida decrease; that is not one of these four approvals. A renewal premium can still change with coverage, insured value, location, risk and discounts even when an insurer's filed rate moves down.
If your policy is with one of the named companies, compare your actual renewal notice with last year's declarations page. Check the deductible, exclusions and insured value before deciding whether a lower premium is a better deal. Ask your insurer or agent which approved filing applies to your policy and when, and get competing quotes with like-for-like coverage.
