Worcester Adds Evening and Saturday Small Claims Sessions

A new optional virtual pilot aims to reduce missed appearances. It does not move an existing hearing unless the court actually assigns or approves the change.

Worcester District Court launched optional after-hours virtual small-claims sessions in September, according to a September 25 Massachusetts Trial Court announcement. The pilot gives working people and families another way to attend without assuming every case must be heard during a weekday work shift.

The court says sessions are offered twice a month: 5 p.m. on the first Monday and 9 a.m. on the third Saturday. It reports the first session was held September 14. The published pattern and launch date should not be used to infer the date of any individual litigant's hearing.

The program aims to reduce defaults and extra hearings caused by missed appearances. Participation is optional, and traditional daytime sessions remain available. This is a local pilot, not a rule that all Massachusetts debt or small-claims proceedings can now be heard remotely after work.

Anyone with a case should confirm the assigned time, participation link and request procedure directly with the court. A more convenient option is useful only if it is actually on the case schedule. Do not skip a listed hearing because an announcement describes an evening alternative, and keep the written notice or approved change with your case records.
