The declaration and county list define the route

West Virginia announced October 2 that FEMA extended the application deadline for assistance after July flooding to October 17, 2026. The governor requested a two-week extension September 27. The announcement gives eligible households more time to file, not a new guaranteed payment amount.

Individuals and families in Lewis, Pleasants, Ritchie and Upshur counties affected by the July flooding may qualify. A person with damage in another county or from a different incident should not assume this deadline and declaration cover that loss.

A deadline extension is not automatic approval

Residents can apply through DisasterAssistance.gov, the FEMA app, the helpline at 800-621-3362 or a Disaster Recovery Center. Centers in Lewis and Upshur counties remain open through October 17, with the state listing weekday hours of 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday hours of 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Keep damage, insurance and household records for the application review. The release does not establish what any particular family will receive or whether all losses are eligible. Check the current FEMA case instructions rather than treating the extended deadline as approval or replacing an existing application with a duplicate.
