The aid looks back to weather losses in 2023 and 2024

Vermont announced a $31.7 million Agriculture and Timber Disaster Assistance Program on September 30, with its main timeline saying online applications are expected October 26 through December 31, 2026. Phase one offers 95% of eligible losses up to $75,000. The state anticipates payments in early 2027.

The program concerns qualifying weather-related losses in 2023 or 2024 for eligible agricultural producers, timber landowners and contracted loggers still operating today. Losses must be tied to an eligible event and supported by documents. This is not general disaster cash for every Vermont household.

Document unmet losses before the planned opening

Prepare ownership or lease information, damage descriptions, dated photos, receipts, repair estimates and records of other assistance for the same loss. Timber applicants may need forester assessments and stand or contract records. The release contains one quoted phrase saying applications are now open, but its explicit main schedule says October 26; confirm the portal before attempting an application.

A second phase is planned for larger infrastructure projects above $75,000, up to a $750,000 maximum, through a competitive grant process. It will not pay again for losses already covered. The first-phase maximum and the later-phase maximum must not be combined into a promise that every business will receive both.
