Organizations apply for the new round

Texas announced October 5, 2026 that applications are open for an estimated $31 million in Fund for Veterans' Assistance grants. Nonprofits and local-government agencies providing direct services apply through the Texas Veterans Commission. A veteran seeking help with a bill does not apply for a share of that headline total.

The portal opened October 2 at 5 p.m. Central and closes December 2 at 5 p.m. Central. The announcement lists awards between $50,000 and $600,000 to eligible providers, with service areas including housing modification, rental assistance, homelessness prevention, legal help and transportation.

Grant totals are not individual household awards

Other supported services include mental-health care, food, financial assistance and job skills. Those categories describe what funded organizations may deliver. They do not prove that every provider has every service or that an individual request is automatically covered.

Organizations should read the request for applications, eligibility rules and commission materials. Veterans and families should seek an appropriate local service provider rather than send a household benefit claim to the grant competition. The estimated funding pool and future awards are not checks already distributed to applicants.
