Washington Attorney General Nick Brown announced October 6, 2026 that he has joined a bipartisan coalition of 43 states and territories seeking court approval of a $400 million settlement with generic drug makers Sandoz Inc. and Fougera Pharmaceuticals Inc. The coalition filed a motion for preliminary approval on October 1 in U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.
The states allege the companies took part in long-running conspiracies to inflate and manipulate generic drug prices and reduce competition. The settlement also resolves allegations that Sandoz’s past and present international affiliates, including Novartis AG, Sandoz AG and Sandoz Group AG, took part and fraudulently transferred assets to avoid liability. Sandoz agreed to injunctive terms including internal reforms to ensure antitrust compliance. Washington’s share is more than $12 million.
Consumers who bought a generic prescription drug between May 2009 and December 2019 may be eligible for compensation. The state lists 1-866-290-0182, info@AGGenericDrugs.com and www.AGGenericDrugs.com for eligibility and claims. Washington and Idaho were the only states in the coalition to also secure restitution for businesses that indirectly bought the drugs or reimbursed their cost.
The Sandoz deal follows settlements with Glenmark, Lannett, Bausch, Apotex, and Heritage and its parent Emcure, totaling $96.5 million.
