The ATM owner matters

A newly open proposed Visa and Mastercard settlement concerns surcharges at independent ATMs. The live administrator says eligible withdrawals must have occurred between October 24, 2007 and August 14, 2026 at United States or territorial ATMs not owned by a bank or financial institution.

The class concerns access fees not fully reimbursed by the customer's bank. A withdrawal fee at a bank-owned machine should not automatically be counted, and a fully reimbursed surcharge does not meet the stated payment condition.

The fund is not a fixed award

The proposed $167.5 million fund also pays approved legal, administration and other costs. It is not the amount available to each person. A valid claim is required by February 10, 2027; exclusion requests must be received by December 11, while objections must be postmarked by that date.

The fairness hearing is scheduled for February 17, 2027. Keep available transaction records and follow the official claim instructions rather than inventing a fee count. The October 3 reporting peg highlights an open claims route, but payments depend on the settlement becoming effective and the valid claims received, not a guaranteed refund for every ATM transaction.
