Status categories affect federal help

Get Covered New Jersey is warning some non-citizens that federal financial-help eligibility changes in 2027 may raise their marketplace insurance costs. The state says it will contact affected households. Losing a category of federal assistance is not automatically the same thing as being unable to buy a plan.

The state table says lawful permanent residents, certain Cuban or Haitian entrants and eligible COFA migrants remain among the qualifying categories. It lists work and student visas, refugees, asylees, Temporary Protected Status and other specified statuses among groups that may not qualify for federal help in 2027. Individual status and program rules still require review.

Read the 2026 and 2027 notices separately

The same page explains separate NJ FamilyCare changes after September 30, 2026 and the possibility of a marketplace special enrollment period following a loss of that coverage. Its September 30 enrollment example is now past, so readers should not assume that example guarantees immediate October coverage for a new application.

The state customer center offers enrollment help at 1-833-677-1010. Check the household notice, coverage effective date and actual assistance calculation for each plan year. This update does not establish that every immigrant loses all insurance assistance, nor does it quote what a specific family will pay after state or federal programs are considered.
