Utility service is not by itself the class definition

The Muscatine Power and Water data settlement lists October 9, 2026 for exclusion and objections, before the October 26 claim deadline. The proposal concerns private information compromised in a January 2024 targeted cyberattack. A utility bill alone does not establish a person was affected.

The $525,000 fund is reduced by approved fees, administration and awards. The notice describes ordinary documented incident expenses up to $500, qualifying extraordinary fraud or identity-theft losses up to $5,000, and up to five hours of response time at $20 per hour.

Different loss categories need different proof

Attested time requires a description of relevant work; financial-loss categories require proof and incident connections. Notes alone do not replace third-party records, and already reimbursed expenses cannot be claimed again. Do not add all maximums into a guaranteed household payout.

Online filing or a mailing postmark must meet October 26. The utility says it is unaware of reported identity theft or confirmed misuse, which is its statement, not proof no risk exists. Payments depend on approval. Keep the notice, expenses and time description and distinguish the earlier rights deadline from the cash window.
