Michigan Teen Jobs Get a New Permit Portal Today

YEPP becomes required October 2. Valid school-issued permits survive, but changing employers requires a new permit.

Michigan's Youth Employment Permit Portal becomes required October 2. The current YEPP page says schools will no longer issue new work permits. For young workers preparing to start a job, that changes where permission is obtained, not merely the look of a form.

The state gives an important transition exception: a valid permit issued by a Michigan school before launch continues to be honored. A minor does not need a new permit just because the process moved online. Changing employers, however, requires a new YEPP permit.

Access is through MiLogin. Employers need a business account, and the page provides setup and help instructions for young workers, employers and schools. The portal also offers youth-rights information and a reporting route. Creating an account is not the same as having a permit issued.

Employers should keep valid existing permits on file and register if hiring minors. The system does not erase applicable hours, safety or other youth-employment rules. Before a first shift, confirm which employer a permit covers. Today's transition does not make existing school permits worthless or turn registration alone into authorization for any job.
