Tidal Trust III has decided to liquidate its GammaRoad Market Navigation ETF (GMMA) after its investment adviser, Tidal Investments LLC, recommended the closure. The firm cited the inability to gather sufficient assets to cover ongoing operational costs as the primary reason for this decision. This move is significant as it highlights the ongoing challenges faced by investment firms in a competitive market.
The decision to liquidate comes as a response to the fund's operational viability, which the Board of Trustees deemed unsustainable. The fund will cease trading on NYSE Arca, Inc. at the close of regular trading on November 18, 2026. After this date, no new purchase orders will be accepted.
Shareholders are advised they can sell their holdings before the closing date, although they may incur brokerage fees. From November 18 to November 20, 2026, trading will be limited, and there is no guarantee of a market for the fund's shares during this period. The fund will begin liquidating its portfolio, which will result in increased cash holdings and a halt to its investment strategies.
On or around the Liquidation Date, the fund will distribute cash pro rata to all shareholders of record who have not sold their shares. This distribution may include capital gains and dividends, which could have tax implications for shareholders. It is recommended that shareholders consult with their tax advisers to understand the potential tax consequences of the liquidation.
This liquidation process illustrates the challenges in the investment management sector, where firms must navigate operational costs and asset management effectively. As Tidal Trust III proceeds with the liquidation, it will ultimately terminate once distributions are complete.
