Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador released on Oct. 7 a list of 51 hazardous products recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in September. His office says the list includes mattresses, household appliances and furniture, and seventeen items specifically designed for infants and children.

The release highlights a fire extinguisher made in China that was recalled for creating an explosion hazard and a risk of death or injury from burns. Several recalled mattresses, including Kesyup, Emerspring and WinxMatrs brands, were recalled for violating the mandatory mattress flammability standard. A children's bicycle helmet and pads set from 5Color was recalled for violating the mandatory bicycle helmet standard.

Labrador said foreign products are not always made to U.S. safety standards and urged consumers, especially those buying for children, to stay alert to recalls. His office publishes the list so families can check what they own against federal notices.

The practical step is to compare products you own with the CPSC recall listings, then follow each notice's remedy. Many recalls offer a refund, repair or replacement, and the notice names the company contact and any proof the company requires. The Idaho release is a roundup, so details such as units and remedies are in each individual CPSC notice.
