The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall Thursday of about 3,630 LED-light keys included with certain Giant SureLock bike lock sets, plus 1,395 in Canada. CPSC says the keys violate the mandatory standard for products with button cell batteries because children can get to the battery, and that the packaging and product lack the warnings required under Reese’s Law.
Only black-and-white LED-light keys made after March 2023 are included, and the affected serial numbers are on the underside of the lock. The lock and the non-LED keys that come in the set are not part of the recall, and owners can keep using them.
Owners should stop using the LED key. Giant will pay a $5 refund when the key is brought to an authorized Giant retailer, along with either the full lock or a photo of the lock serial number to confirm it is covered. Contact Giant at 866-458-2555 or Recall@GiantBicycle.com. Swallowed button batteries can cause serious internal chemical burns, so keep the key away from children until it is returned.
