Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced October 13, 2026 that he joined the Federal Trade Commission and six other states in asking a federal judge to hold Martin Shkreli in contempt of a 2022 court order banning him from the pharmaceutical industry. The coalition alleges that since his release from prison in May 2022 he violated the order by publicly trading pharmaceutical stocks and broadcasting opinions about the business and management of pharma companies. These are allegations.

In February 2022 the Southern District of New York ruled Shkreli organized an illegal anticompetitive scheme to keep a monopoly over Daraprim, a treatment for toxoplasmosis, blocking generic competition and allowing the price to rise from $17.50 to $750 a tablet. The court imposed the industry ban and ordered him to disgorge over $64 million.

The motion and brief were filed October 13. The office said a court-ordered industry ban is a legal obligation, not a suggestion.
