Salmonella illness usually starts 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food and lasts four to seven days, with diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. Children under five, older adults and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to have severe infections. The FDA advises cleaning and sanitizing surfaces and containers that touched recalled products and contacting a health care provider if symptoms appear.
