Equifax Coding-Error Claims Are Open. $95 to $280 Is Only an Estimate

The March-April 2022 reporting issue has a specific class test. Claims close December 28, not when a headline appears.

The affected report must match the coding analysis

The live Equifax FCRA administrator says claims are open for a proposed $100 million settlement involving a computer coding issue from March 17 through April 8, 2022. The class depends on an affected score or credit attribute being reported to a third party in an identified class transaction.

This is not the old Equifax data-breach settlement and does not cover every person whose credit score changed. The administrator says people receiving an official notice are identified by company records as falling within the specified group.

Claim volume changes the payment

Every member submitting a valid timely claim receives an equal share of the net distribution amount after approved fees and costs. Plaintiffs estimate about $95 to $280 using typical claim rates, but actual amounts may be higher or lower. That range is not a guaranteed benefit.

Claims must be submitted online or postmarked by December 28. Exclusion and objection deadlines are November 27; final approval is scheduled for January 22, 2027. Save the notice and verify the case before providing private information. The new claim route addresses a defined reporting error, not a universal payment for having an Equifax credit file.
