Nomura Holdings Inc. announced its financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2026, showcasing a solid performance across all business divisions. The company reported a 21% year-on-year increase in pretax income, highlighting the effectiveness of its business model transformation. This growth is particularly significant in the competitive landscape of security brokers, dealers, and flotation companies.
For the second quarter, Nomura reported net revenue of 607.5 billion yen (approximately $3.9 billion), reflecting an 18% increase year-on-year, despite a 12% decline from the previous quarter. Income before income taxes was 148.0 billion yen (about $941 million), down 30% quarter-on-quarter but up 8% year-on-year. The net income attributable to Nomura Holdings shareholders was 103.7 billion yen (around $659 million), marking a 29% decrease from the last quarter but a 13% increase compared to the same quarter last year.
“In the first half of the fiscal year, we continued to see the positive results of our business model transformation,” said Kentaro Okuda, Nomura President and Group CEO. He noted that the return on equity (ROE) was 13.3%, with pretax income from all four business divisions rising 50% year-on-year.
Nomura's Wealth Management division experienced record-high recurring revenue and net inflows into recurring revenue assets, reaching approximately 750 billion yen. The recurring revenue cost coverage ratio rose to 79%, indicating a strong foundation for future earnings stability.
Investment Management also performed well, maintaining high assets under management due to continued inflows into newly launched and balanced funds. The division's revenue remained solid, contributing to the overall positive results.
The Wholesale division reported strong revenues in its Equities business, while Investment Banking net revenue increased by 26% year-on-year, driven by significant momentum in key product areas. Banking also saw growth in net revenue and pretax income due to higher interest rates and solid progress toward achieving its key performance indicators.
Nomura declared a half-year dividend of 35 yen per share, reflecting the company's confidence in its financial health and commitment to returning value to shareholders.
Looking ahead, Nomura aims to continue strengthening its revenue base by diversifying its wholesale revenue streams and pursuing structural reforms. The firm is focused on achieving its 2030 management vision of reaching sustainable growth.
