The Hellenic Ministry of National Defense announced on November 2, 2026, that it has signed a contract with Embraer S.A. for the acquisition of three KC-390 Millennium aircraft, with options for three additional units. This deal marks a significant step for Greece in enhancing its military capabilities and strengthening interoperability with NATO allies.
As part of this agreement, the Hellenic Air Force is expected to receive its first KC-390 Millennium in 2027. The aircraft will improve Greece's airlift and air-to-air refueling capabilities, which are crucial for modern military operations. The deal also allows Greece to benefit from European synergies in training, support, and logistics.
“We are honored by Greece's decision to acquire the KC-390 Millennium. This choice underscores the trust and confidence that leading NATO members place in our aircraft,” said Bosco Da Costa Junior, President & CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “This very important milestone further solidifies the aircraft's position as a preferred solution for military airlift among NATO allies.”
Greece becomes the seventh European nation to select the KC-390, joining Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Sweden. This acquisition reflects a broader trend among EU and NATO member states recognizing the aircraft's effectiveness in addressing current and future defense needs.
Beyond Europe, the KC-390 Millennium has also been acquired by air forces in Brazil, South Korea, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Colombia. This next-generation multi-mission aircraft is designed to deliver unmatched capability, reliability, versatility, and performance, enhancing operational capabilities worldwide.
The KC-390 is capable of carrying a payload of 26 tons, flying at speeds of 470 knots, and performing a wide range of missions, including cargo and troop transport, medical evacuation, search and rescue, and humanitarian missions. It can operate from temporary or unpaved runways and can be configured for air-to-air refueling.
Embraer S.A. is a global aerospace company headquartered in Brazil, specializing in the design, development, manufacturing, and marketing of aircraft and systems. Since its founding in 1969, Embraer has delivered over 9,000 aircraft, solidifying its position as a leading manufacturer in the aircraft industry.
