Manufacturer defects define this settlement

The Smith v. Costa warranty settlement lists October 8, 2026 for exclusion requests and objections. Eligible members automatically receive proportional cash if the court approves the deal. That deadline should not be advertised as a cash-claim form cutoff when the administrator describes an automatic route.

The $4.095 million settlement covers United States citizens who bought nonprescription Costa sunglasses before January 1, 2016 and paid warranty fees for manufacturer-defect repairs or replacements between August 20, 2013 and February 29, 2020. The particular purchase, defect and fee conditions matter.

Automatic cash still depends on approval

Payment is determined per eligible repair after approved deductions. The website permits a payment election using the notice unique ID and PIN. It does not promise a fixed refund of every fee, and it lists final approval for January 20, 2027. Costa denies wrongdoing.

This is separate from the larger Reed repair-fee settlement about accident, wear or misuse. Do not copy that case class period, Florida exclusion or October 26 rights deadline into a warranty claim. For Smith, exclusion is postmarked October 8 and objections are filed October 8. Retain the relevant repair and notice records.
