The Connecticut Insurance Department released its fiscal year 2026 results on Oct. 5. It says it recovered more than $6.4 million for Connecticut consumers through complaint resolution and assistance.

The department also reports that its Life Insurance Policy Locator matched more than $35 million in reported life insurance coverage, meaning policies that family members might not have known about were found for them. It says it generated more than $138.6 million for the state's General Fund, including about $41 million from biennial producer appointment fees and $2.6 million from fines and penalties on regulated entities.

Insurance Commissioner Josh Hershman said the results reflect work from resolving individual consumer issues to holding insurers and licensed professionals accountable. The department is funded mainly through assessments on domestic insurance companies rather than the General Fund.

The figures are the department's own and cover Connecticut only. They show that filing a complaint with a state insurance regulator can lead to recoveries, though results vary by case. If you have a dispute with an insurer in another state, your state insurance department has its own complaint process.
