The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services published the 2027 Medicare Advantage and Part D Star Ratings on October 8, 2026 on Medicare Plan Finder. Open enrollment for 2027 coverage begins October 15, 2026 and runs through December 7, 2026. The ratings also affect 2028 MA quality bonus payments.
CMS says about 37% of Medicare Advantage prescription drug (MA-PD) contracts offered in 2027, or 188 contracts, earned four stars or higher. Weighted by enrollment, about 71% of MA-PD enrollees are in contracts with four or more stars in 2027. MA-PD contracts are rated on up to 43 measures, MA-only contracts on up to 32 and standalone Part D plans on up to 13.
CMS added two new measures, Concurrent Use of Opioids and Benzodiazepines and Polypharmacy: Use of Multiple Anticholinergic Medications in Older Adults. It retired the Care for Older Adults Pain Assessment and Medication Reconciliation Post-Discharge measures. CMS says year-over-year rating changes are normal because cut points are recalculated annually.
