New York medical debt and credit reports

New York’s Fair Medical Debt Reporting Act generally bars consumer reporting agencies from placing or maintaining medical debt on a credit report, including qualifying medical credit-card debt. Ordinary all-purpose credit-card charges for care can be reported as credit-card debt. The state attorney general warns that some provisions remain open to interpretation.
