Seabridge Gold Inc. has taken a significant step in expanding its exploration portfolio by acquiring the Slaughterhouse Project in Wyoming. This acquisition, announced on October 13, 2026, includes a 100% interest in 163 mining claims, along with valuable geological data and survey results. The move is expected to bolster Seabridge's position in the gold and critical minerals market.
The Slaughterhouse Project has been under evaluation by Orogen Royalties Inc., the previous owner, for several years. Seabridge's Senior Vice President of Exploration, Bill Threlkeld, highlighted the project's potential, noting that the region has a historical reputation as a copper and gold camp. However, it has not undergone comprehensive exploration to fully understand its mineral deposits.
Threlkeld emphasized the unique geological features of the area, particularly the presence of hematite associated with copper and gold deposits. He stated, "Hematite iron oxide copper-gold (IOCG) deposits are highly prized because they can offer superior grades compared to porphyry deposits including concentrations of critical minerals." This insight suggests that the Slaughterhouse Project could lead to significant discoveries in the future.
Rudi Fronk, Seabridge's Chair and CEO, expressed optimism about the acquisition. He stated, "Our approach to the Slaughterhouse Project will employ a novel concept that has never been tested in Wyoming with modern exploration thinking and tools." Fronk believes that the project has the potential to unlock new opportunities for gold and critical metals exploration.
As part of the purchase agreement, Seabridge will pay US$300,000 for the project and may provide up to US$2.55 million in milestone payments upon achieving specific goals. Orogen will retain a 2.5% net smelter return royalty on the existing claims, subject to a partial buy-down, and a 0.5% to 1% royalty in a broader area of mutual interest. The transaction is still subject to customary closing conditions.
This acquisition marks a pivotal moment for Seabridge Gold, as it seeks to enhance its exploration capabilities and capitalize on the growing demand for gold and critical minerals. The company's innovative approach may set a new standard in the industry, prompting competitors to reevaluate their strategies in underexplored regions.
Seabridge Gold Inc. is known for holding a 100% interest in several North American gold projects, with its principal assets located in British Columbia's Golden Triangle. The company also has projects in Nevada and the Yukon. This recent acquisition aligns with its strategy to expand its footprint in the gold and critical minerals market.
The filing does not specify what happens next, but the acquisition of the Slaughterhouse Project is expected to lead to further developments in Seabridge's exploration efforts.
